Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg appeared on “Good Morning America yesterday to tout the social media service’s newest feature, which allows users to share their organ donor status and link to databases where people in the United States and United Kingdom can register online to officially become donors.

Zuckerberg said there were several inspirations for the idea, including Steve Jobs’ life-extending liver transplant, Facebook users who have sought assistance after natural disasters, and conversations with his girlfriend, who is studying pediatric medicine.

A video primer on how to use the Facebook organ donor feature is available here.
