2012 Sees More Returning U.S. Olympians Than Ever

According to a USA Today article this week, 43 percent of the USA’s 529-member team are returning Olympians. Of the 228 encore Olympians this summer, 76 are gold medalists.  There are seven U.S. athletes who will compete in their fifth Olympics.

When asked why Olympians are increasingly going back to Olympic competitions, U.S. Olympic Committee Chief of Sport Performance Alan Ashley said, “”Depending on the sport, it probably has to do with better training methodologies. They’re better able to sustain a longer career because of better sports science and medicine to keep you going.”  Read the full article.
